FreeBSD PPP stuff for Brian Somers!
Hi Brian. Here are the ktrace's of userland ppp:
- ktrace.out.gz - a ktrace while the load was
driven to 1.00. cvsup was running at the same time, but according to TOP,
the CPU was 97% idle for this entire ktrace. Data was streaming in at full
33.6 speed on my USR sportster external. 16650 FIFO's. The download has been
running for a few minutes before the load climbed up to 1 (it took about 45
seconds for the load to rise from .26 to 1.00). After about 5 minutes like
this, the load slowly came back down to about .45 (which is still a little high
if you ask me!). The machine seemed to be prefectly responsive during this whole
affair, making me call this "artifial load bloat". The file is 882K.
- ktrace.out.good.gz - for reference a ktrace
of ppp while behaving (i.e. the load stayed around .1 for so). 319K.
Finally, here's what top was saying when the load was runing high:
Relavent parts of my /etc/ppp/ppp.config file:
default:
set device /dev/cuaa0
set speed 115200
set redial 5 45
disable lqr
deny lqr
#set init_string "at&f1&h1&c1&k0&n0"
#set dial "ABORT BUSY ABORT NO\\sCARRIER TIMEOUT 5 \"\" ATE1Q0 OK-AT-OK \\dATDT\\T TIMEOUT 40 CONNECT"
set dial "ABORT BUSY ABORT NO\\sCARRIER TIMEOUT 5 \"\" AT\&F1\&H1\&C1\&K0\&N0E1Q0 OK-AT-OK \\dATDT\\T TIMEOUT 40 CONNECT"
