Generic HSM
Enigma Data Systems has this product called SmartMove - they call it a software appliance for HSM. So basically it’s a software based HSM solution that can talk to generic NFS servers, NetApps, EMC, plug into Veritas, etc. HSM without the vendor-specific lock in. I’ll download the demo and try it out next week. Automatic migration of data to cheaper tiers of storage as it becomes ’stale’ is something I’ve always thought was smart - the key is how heavy does the ‘M’ part of Hierarchical Storage Management get..
