Web apps are the right solution for most people. I hear people say, "searching google is faster than searching my own computer.' There is a good reason for this. Google is maintaining and running 10s of thousands of computers 24/7 to perform one task. Quick searches. If you look at it that way how could you expect searching your own computer to be faster? MS IS screwing up. Look at the WinFS project. I mean who gives a rat's ass about meta data on the desktop? Once all that data is in gmail, microsoft will have lost. I’ve been thinking this forever.
