weblog editors and blog lock-in
So I’ve been starting to itch for a better way to post stuff to my blog. You know, have spell checking, better editing and formatting… There appears to be two strong contenders on the OS X platform that I need to check out:
ecto also runs on Windows, which gives it a bit of a leg-up since I’m not always sitting in front of my Powerbook. ecto is also about $5 cheaper than MarsEdit, although $25 in either CAN or US dollars is a pretty reasonable price if the software does make posting smoother.
My tests will focus on how easily I can grab content (text, images) from sites or my hard drive and assemble it into a post.
A somewhat related task is that I have a Wordpress upgrade looming in my near future. Which means I’ll probably get nervous about spending more time on Wordpress stuff when I’d rather have my content in Plone/Zope… Lock-in is a bit of a problem in the blog software world right now. Maybe more standardized, extendable weblog APIs would help out here too. I’d sure love it if I could more cleanly seperate my content from the weblog software I use to present it.
