LDAP Administrator

As I’ve been entering the final stages of our transition to LDAP authentication *system wide* at the GSC, I felt like I had an obligation to point out what a valuable tool Softerra’s LDAP Administrator is. It’s the best directory browser out there, and when you’re learning LDAP for the first time a good browser is critical for reverse engineering the directory structure enabling you to figure out how the damned thing actually works. The tool is also handy for editing directories. New entry templates saved me a ton of time and meant I could put off writing custom tools to do that work until a later stage in the deployment. It’s Windows only, but I still highly recommend it.
LDAP. It’s a beast to get comfortable with, no doubt. But once you have it down, it really is all it’s cracked up to be. Now, if only there was an LDAP Administrator equivalent that ran on Linux or the Mac…
