July update
General update since I haven’t been posting lately. The reason is pretty simple — too many other things competing for my time. First there was the France vacation. Then we moved from North Vancouver to Port Moody. And I put in notice with the Genome Sciences Centre that I would be leaving at the end of June. Needless to say, I put in a lot of effort to finish up a few high priority projects at the GSC, most of which I’m pleased to report did get done. I decided not to take any additional time off between leaving the GSC and starting at TELUS. I’m in my second week at the new job now in the Chief Technology Office as a Design Engineer on the IP/Data team. Being out of telco for a few years means that I have a lot of catch-up work to do! While you could argue that the work we were trying to pioneer at 360networks has just now entered the mainstream, I forget a lot of the terminology and have had to refresh my knowledge on a lot of the topics that were just being fleshed out 3 years ago (MPLS VPNs, for example). So where I’ve had a few free minutes in the evening I’ve been reading textbooks and network vendor docs instead of keeping on top of the blogosphere.
I suspect the trend of the last month, i.e. spending no more than 15 minutes on the computer at home each night, will probably continue for the next little while. Hopefully by fall things will get back to normal and I can spend more time following my personal geeky interests and making the time to post about them.
In the mean time, if I have free time it will probably go to hanging out with Charlie and trying to get some time in on the mountain bike whenever I can. I can’t loose sight of the reason I live in this province: the lifestyle!
