ActiveState on its own again

Via David Ascher at the ActiveState Blog: ActiveState to spin out!

They were bought up by Sophos for their anti-spam surprise hit, PureMessage. Now they’re back to being the quirky little dynamic language company they started out as. It’s hard to tell much specific about the financials from the Pender Group press release, but presumably there’s enough money to keep things stable for them for a while. Personally, I’m thrilled, because ActiveState is one of the reasons Vancouver has such a thriving dynamic language community, IMHO. They’ve always provided the venues, organisational skills, and employment. I doubt there’d be such active PHP and Python (for example) user groups in Vancouver without ActiveState.

So hats off to the Activators, and best wishes for the future. I’m certainly curious to see what their plans for future products / business models are, and whether they can gain any traction in the exploding Ruby space.
