Its would be nice to be able to purchase an iPhone in Canada. The camera is the least of the problems if Rogers doesn't lighten up and reduce data costs to something affordable. We may never see iPhone in Canada.
I believe the iPhone camera suffers from poor performance in low light levels, and the above shots certainly prove that. But it does a lot of other things, in high resolution. The sparkling iPhone display should also be considered in the equation, which is the best, and the most gratifying to the user.

I think the better auto exposure and white balance are probably the biggest factors, yes. The Sony also has a faster lens and almost 4 times the resolution, which results in a lot sharper images (moving subjects in particular) as well as increased overall detail. Note how much more detail was captured in the shadows in particular. I think the lens is a little wider too.

Overall the Sony camera is better is every way. Which, considering the Sony's relative low cost, makes the iPhone's camera more than a little disappointing for me. Apple would do well to improve the camera in the next revision.

So the big differentiator is that the auto-white balance on the Sony is superior.
